Cultural Presenter Pathway Application

This pathway supports an emerging Aboriginal cultural practitioner to travel to Aotearoa and present cultural knowledge to Māori communities on the marae.

For the past four years, Youth-Led Services has delivered the Cross-Culture, Cross-Oceans Gathering to create opportunities for people across Australia to travel, learn, and connect directly with Māori communities in Aotearoa.

This program is grounded in cultural respect, lived experience, and meaningful exchange — not tourism — and focuses on strengthening identity, leadership, and community connection.

Cultural Presenters are required to delivery 2 x 2 hour cultural presentations to Māori hosts on the marae.

Inclusions:

  • Return flights to New Zealand

  • Accommodation for the full program

  • Majority of meals

  • All cultural program activities

  • Travel and cultural support from Be One Collective / YLS staff

Participants Responsibilities:

  • Personal spending money

  • Passport costs (if required)

  • Any medical or travel items they need

Cultural Knowledge Sharing & Exchange

This pathway creates an opportunity for Aboriginal cultural knowledge to be shared in a meaningful way with Māori communities, strengthening connection, reciprocity, and respect between First Nations peoples.

Representation in Cultural Spaces

Presenters are invited to contribute their own stories, practices, and perspectives in a marae setting, bringing lived cultural knowledge into an international exchange experience.

Supported Cultural Leadership

The program offers cultural guidance, travel support, and a structured environment to help presenters participate safely, respectfully, and confidently throughout the journey.

Connection Beyond the Trip

This experience supports deeper relationships, cultural understanding, and long-term connection between communities across Australia and Aotearoa.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Youth-Led Services acknowledges the traditional First Nations people of this country. We pay respects to the Traditional Owners of all the lands we travel through. We hold heart for the injustices to Country through invasion and understand that the trauma is embedded into the depth of the spirits. We also acknowledge the resilience and strength of First Nation peoples show true warrior spirit.

First Nations people have worked and walked in two worlds successful for centuries, and have been able to maintain cultural practices through cultural genocide and provide support and leaning for our non-Indigenous peoples in Australia. We extend our acknowledgement to First Peoples around the world, holding space in our hearts for the injustices of invasion that have been experienced by many of our Indigenous brothers and sisters.

We have heart, spirit and ancestors that guide us through our journey, we will walk this path remembering the footprints before us and creating space for the ones that will walk after us.
